On May 25, the Unicom Yanfei 5G module and industry kit product conference jointly sponsored by China Unicom 5G Innovative Application Alliance, Unicom Digital Technology Co., Ltd. and China Unicom Internet of Things Research Institute was held in Nanjing (hereinafter referred to as the conference). With the theme of "Craftsman's core products, Zhilian's future", this press conference, centering on the pain points and limitations of the existing market, released the Unicom Yanfei 5G module to solve the key problem of high module cost, which is the core device accounting for about 60% of the terminal cost.

For the 5G module industry, Li Kai, the chief product officer of the Internet of Things Business Unit of Unicom, said that the global demand for 5G modules would exceed 10 million pieces/year in 2021 and 50 million pieces/year by 2025. The six typical application scenarios, such as CPE, MIFI, DTU, intelligent equipment, Internet of Vehicles, and UHD video transmission, will increase the scale of 5G applications. However, the current 5G application market is far from expected. The main pain point hindering the development of the market scale of 5G industry is the high cost of modules.
In response to the industry pain points, at this press conference, Chen Haifeng, president of China Unicom Internet of Things Research Institute and vice president of China Unicom Digital Technology, jointly launched the industry's first low-cost Yanfei 5G module. In view of the current situation that the overall 5G industry is subject to high module costs and slow development, through in-depth optimization and tailoring, it has achieved the directional guidance of the development of differentiated and customized 5G modules.

The press conference also seized this opportunity and completed the on-site signing of 5G modules with seven key cooperative enterprises, including Flymodem, Lenovo, Linyang Energy, and Maigu Technology.

At the meeting, Chen Haifeng always mentioned that 2021 is the first year of the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan". As an important part of the digital economy, the development of the Internet of Things cannot be separated from the strong support of the chip and module industries.
Xu Yongcai, founder of Feimao Zhilian, also said that "Feimao Zhilian and Unicom have always maintained close cooperation and will continue to lead 5G application and innovation in the future. Yanfei 5G module, as an important part of the design of Feimao Zhilian 5G mobile broadband products, will also promote the large-scale development of Feimao Zhilian terminals and eventually lead the wave of digital transformation".
With the arrival of the 5G era, China Unicom will continue to adhere to the principle of "mobilizing operable resources, carrying operable customers, exploring operable business models", actively promote industry scale, improve operational efficiency, and work together with the industrial chain to advance!
